the wall

He volunteered to fight the War on Terror.

We volunteer to honor his sacrifice.

Marine Lance Corporal Joshua Misiewicz grew up in La Grange and graduated from Lyons Township High School in 2006, where he was well-known as a hockey star. He played for St. Mary’s College in Minnesota for two years before pursuing his passion to become a United States Marine.

Josh was serving in Afghanistan last July when his life changed in a flash: a landmine exploded and he suffered the loss of both legs and two shattered ear drums. He is currently recovering at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland, where his can-do attitude is an example to others. It is no coincidence that Josh -- an elite athlete who sought and met the challenge of the Marine Corps -- is already climbing a rock wall as part of his rehab!

But Josh and his family face a long journey of healing and rehabilitation. Medical care is covered by the government, but countless other expenses are not. His parents, Bill and Nancy, are taking turns away from their jobs to be with him, and they will carry a heavy financial burden for years to come.

Friends and neighbors have made a commitment to JOIN HANDS FOR JOSH to give hope, encouragement, financial and emotional support to a Marine who gave so much for us.
